A Word about Gifts

Hi Everyone,

Thank you so much for wanting to come to our wedding--and for coming, in the end! We know the traditional thing is to bring gifts, and we imagine (largely because people have started to ask) that many of you want to give us gifts for our wedding. This is exceedingly kind of all of you.

However, there are some little problems with such schemes (you clever people). Chiefly, we can't carry much back with us on the airplane.

So as a favor to us, please don't bring us wedding gifts. If you would like to give us something, we offer you several options:
  • We have just moved into our first (unfurnished) apartment together, and have had little time to set it up before coming over to the States. You could, if you like, give us money that we could put toward necessary furnishings and equipment.
  • We're also taking a camping road trip for our honeymoon, and money toward that would also be helpful in paying for gas, the car, campsites, etc.
  • You could donate to a charity on our behalf. We prefer environmental, educational, pacifist, egalitarian, humanitarian, and/or nonreligious ones. Oh yes, and they must be open-minded and use donations wisely. Here are some ideas:
    • The Red Cross
    • GreenPeace
    • The Sierra Club
  • Or you could just be yourself, come to the wedding, and help make it a fantastic event!
Chers tous,

European Travel Advisory

THIS IS IMPORTANT. PLEASE READ IF YOU ARE COMING TO THE WEDDING FROM EUROPE.

Laws regarding entry into the US from countries involved in the Visa Waiver Program (which includes most of Europe) have changed recently. People traveling from Europe to the US now need to fill out this form and wait for approval before traveling.

What to Bring, How to Help Out

(Version français ci-après)

As we said earlier, this will be a very communal wedding. We hope that all of you will join us in our celebration, and help by being present, adding to the fun, buying and preparing food and activities with everyone, and in general being the wonderful people you are.

If you can bring something to eat or drink and you would like to, that's fantastic! Please do. But don't force it--if you can't, you can't. We will all be getting and making food during the weekend anyway. The idea is to have a big picnic/barbecue. We're pretty nontraditional and perhaps a bit sentimental, so we'd prefer to be surrounded by friends and family who create an atmosphere of fun and care together than to have a big fancy affair.

We'll also need plenty of volunteers to do creative things for the weekend--sing songs, put on skits, do or teach artwork, play music, dance, whatever comes to mind. If you've got an idea, let us know!

Lodging

(Version française ci-après)

There are two main possibilities for lodging in the vicinity of Vernon, Vermont: the hotel genre (hotels, motels, and bed & breakfasts) and camp sites. Okay, and there are barns. (I'm serious.) Karin and Bronna (also known, in some circles, as Mom) have kindly put together a list of possibilities, which you can view here.

Where It Will Be and How to Get There

(version française ci-après)

Hi Everyone,

As mentioned above, our wedding will take place on the 24th through the 26th of July at David's mother's house in Vernon, Vermont. The official address is:
69 Newton Hills Road
Vernon, VT 05354
USA
Here's a link to the location on Google Maps.

Most of our guests will be coming from more distant locations, most likely via Boston or New York. There are a number of ways to get from these fair cities to the wedding site. If you wish, you can rent a car (very easy at the airport) from a number of places, including probably
Hertz, Avis, Budget, Dollar, and others. This is the most flexible solution and that which will enable you to enjoy Vermont's countryside the best. If you take the bus, you'll want to stop in Brattleboro, Vermont, which is only a few miles from Vernon. If you take the train, you can also stop in Brattleboro, but word from the locals says that it's better to stop in Springfield, Massachusetts, which is only a little further away (45 minutes by car as opposed to 20).

Chers tous,

For now, we can tell you that the wedding will take place over three days, from July 24 to July 26 in Vernon, Vermont, USA. Ceremonies and festivities will be held at the house of David's mother.
